Summary: The article reviews the modern English literary criticism of the work of J.D. Salinger. The existentialist interpretation of the author`s works, Marxist reading, postmodernist analysis and the analysis of works using the achievements of psychoanalysis are taken into account. The set of literary critical works is a critical reception of Salinger`s work in the English-speaking world. This article can serve as a starting point for the study of the author`s reception in the national literature, as well as in the study and research of the work of the American author.
